Varanasi - the cradle of Hinduism
One of the oldest cities in the world – Varanasi or Kashi or Benares as it’s known is situated on the banks of the river Ganges.
Colorful and vibrant, it is easy to lose yourself in the hustle bustle of the many winding bye-lanes and alleyways. Or you can choose to rediscover yourself in the spirituality and solace it has to offer.
Hindus come to this “sacred city” to wash away their sins with a dip in the river Ganges during the annual pilgrimage. Dying here brings “nirvana” which is why many come here to spend their last days. Bodies of the dead are cremated on one of the numerous “ghats” dotted alongside the river with the flames reaching out to the heavens.
